Based in Brooklyn, New York, PELLE operates from a 12,000-square-foot studio that brings design, workshop, and exhibition under one roof. Led by 2 partners who work collaboratively with a six person staff, the studio's integrated environment allows ideas to move fluidly from conception to realization, reinforcing the studio’s hands-on approach and commitment to craftsmanship.
The studio is seeking a full-time, highly skilled, detail-oriented Studio Associate to lead the studio’s fabrication, wiring, packaging, and installation of our high-end, custom lighting fixtures. The ideal candidate brings years of hands-on experience in a professional design studio, fine art fabrication environment, or high-end workshop. You must possess deep expertise in mechanical assembly, UL-standard electrical wiring, packaging & crating, and on-site installations of lighting fixtures. This position demands an eye for detail, exceptional problem-solving skills, and the ability to handle delicate materials with care. This is an on-site position, and you must be present to work in our Sunset Park Brooklyn studio, Mondays-Fridays from 9am-5pm.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assemble complex builds: Preparation and assembly of intricate, custom lighting fixtures from raw or finished components.
- Wiring: Wire LED systems, and traditional incandescent components adhering strictly to safety and UL certification standards.
- Material handling: Safely cut, drill, tap, solder, and finish metals – brass, aluminum, and steel.
- Quality control: Conduct electrical testing and aesthetic inspections during production.
- Custom crating: Design and build protective crates, foam inserts, and specialized packaging solutions tailored to the unique geometry of each fixture.
- Packaging: Ensure all finished pieces are cleaned, wrapped, and organized with necessary mounting hardware and documentation before transit.
- Studio and on-site installations: Transport and install heavy, complex, or fragile lighting systems in high-end residential, commercial, gallery, or trade-show settings.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in high-end lighting fabrication, fine art crating/handling, high-end carpentry, or similar trade.
- Electrical Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of low-voltage and line-voltage wiring, LED drivers, transformers, and dimming protocols (Phase, 0-10V, DALI).
- Tool Proficiency: Mastery of standard hand tools, power tools, soldering irons, and light workshop machinery (drill press, band saw).
- Physical Stamina: Ability to occasionally lift heavy objects (50+ lbs), work comfortably on ladders, and maintain dexterity during intricate manual tasks.
- Strong organizational skills: Ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks while under tight deadlines with excellent attention to detail.
- Must be able to work effectively independently and exercise good judgment.
- Ability to anticipate any potential problems, make decisions, facilitate and implement solutions.
- Hourly rate: $35/hour
